Gold Ridge, RA 999
Gold Ridge roadless area lies between Gold Creek and Libby Creek west of the town of Carlton. On the south side, the vegetation is primarily ponderosa pine and shrub - steppe, but some of these areas have suffered badly from a combination of mining and overgrazing. The steep north-facing slopes are primarily Douglas fir and ponderosa pine. At its lowest end near the Methow River, the ridge becomes a cliff, and livestock grazing seems to have passed this area by, leaving its shrub-steppe habitats in good condition.
